Dempster Fire Training Center - Short Documentary

Year

2025

This short documentary series follows what a day in the life of a fire fighter recruit looks like at Dempster Fire Training Center.

The documentary was created to increase awareness of the demanding training required of firefighting recruits, inspire new recruits to pursue firefighting, and combat flagging rates of enlistment in local fire departments.

“The academy is building your foundation for the next 30 years of [your] career… it’s…15 weeks of building [your] 30 years,” said Captain B. Roberts of the Trenton Fire Department, one of those responsible for training the new recruits.

Filmed on location at the Dempster Fire Training Center, the project captures several training exercises, including roof cutting and ventilation drills, critical skills necessary to operate in the fire department.

This film has been selected to screen in the 2025 Nassau Film Festival.
