Princeton, N.J. — Sept. 29 — Pollen Productions has released a short documentary film revealing a day in the life of new recruits at the Dempster Fire Training Center in Mercer County, N.J. The project, funded by Pollen Productions, reveals the rigorous training process undertaken by recruits from Trenton and Hamilton alongside seasoned firefighters and instructors. The film seeks to inspire the next generation of firefighters while giving the public a deeper appreciation for the profession.

The documentary was created to increase awareness of the demanding training required of firefighting recruits, inspire new recruits to pursue firefighting, and combat flagging rates of enlistment in local fire departments. 

“The academy is building your foundation for the next 30 years of [your] career… it’s…15 weeks of building [your] 30 years,” said Captain B. Roberts of the Trenton Fire Department, one of those responsible for training the new recruits.  

Filmed on location at the Dempster Fire Training Center, the film captures several training exercises, including roof cutting and ventilation drills, critical skills necessary to operate in the fire department.

The Dempster Fire Training Center, located in Mercer County, N.J., serves as a premier facility for firefighter education and preparedness. The center offers state-of-the-art resources for recruits and veteran firefighters alike, reinforcing the region’s commitment to public safety.

The documentary was completed in 2025. It is now supporting recruitment campaigns for the Trenton Fire Department and surrounding communities. The documentary is currently available to watch on the Pollen Productions website here as well as on YouTube here. The documentary has been submitted to several local film festivals as well, in an effort to extend its impact.
